Historical Garment Reconstruction

I have recently shifted my focus from modern sewing and costuming to “original practice”: constructing historical clothing using the exact methods of the time. This means disregarding convenient modern construction methods and sewing machines in exchange for the original techniques and practices used by the tailors, mantua-makers, milliners, and seamstresses of the 18th century. The aim of this practice is to be able to come to a deeper understanding of both history and fashion.
